Cobra lamp

, designed by Elio Martinelli in 1968, with a new

Limited Edition

. COBRA is a sinuously-shaped, dynamic and agile lamp like the serpent it is named after – an animal that oscillates to the music but is ready to spring into action.

Designed and manufactured in 1968, molded using a unique material – thermosetting resin – in shiny white or black, for its 50-year production anniversary it is proposed in the new red designer version. The new colour further enhances the dynamic nature of the COBRA lamp, making it even more captivating and precious.

On the occasion of this special anniversary, Martinelli Luce pays homage to the designer of the lamp with another project: the Cobra Texture. Among the creators already at work on the design of the texture that will be applied to the Cobra lamp are the “friends” who knew and worked with Elio Martinelli, together with the designers who work with the company today. The “artistic” interpretations are part of the exhibition itinerary that took place on February 27^th at the Triennale in Milan on the occasion of the press conference presenting the new ‘Cobra 50 years’, which still today stands out for its unmistakable shape similar to the movement of the snake that gave it its name. Each texture-project will be produced in 30 numbered copies.

Inspired by nature
Simplicity, pure geometric forms, but above all nature are the elements that inspired Elio Martinelli’s creations. And the COBRA lamp is the perfect example of such an inspiration. Inscribable in a sphere, thanks to the rotation of the upper body, COBRA easily changes geometry, recalling its namesake animal, keeping the relationship between form, beauty and charm unaltered while expanding its functionalities.
