A new Alessi adventure: to restore the musical spirit of objects
'Extra Ordinary Metal', a soundtrack by Chiara Luzzana
Alessi
has also used this method in the sound project developed by Italian sound designer and composer Chiara Luzzana. This is a challenge at the limits of the impossible to create a new way of expressing design research and further developing the emotional dimension of a concept.Extra Ordinary Metal
” project - a series of table accessories that represents a new interpretation of the metal surface through the use of brass, a material already used by Alessi in the 1920s and 30s - into a composition. The manufacturing tradition of the Alessi workshops is given a modern twist through the old goldsmith’s technique of Etruscan Granulation. In “Extra Ordinary Metal” the granulation, obtained through the cold milling of brass, is applied through a geometric sequence generated by the Fibonacci number. The result is a texture with a harmonious design that interacts with the light.
The development of the soundtrack began with all these elements. The composer remarks: “I create music using sounds captured from everyday life. Everything you can see, you can hear”. History, Design, Culture, Metamorphosis and Decoration are some of the concepts that we can discern though the sounds that Chiara Luzzana has extracted from the objects: trays, baskets, containers, fruit bowls.
